Troubleshooting Common Issues
Having trouble with Polyglotton? Here are solutions to the most common problems.
Lesson Import Issues
“Import Failed” Error
Possible causes:
- Lesson JSON is malformed
- Browser compatibility issue
- Insufficient storage space
Solutions:
- Validate your JSON using a JSON validator
- Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
- Clear old lessons to free up space
- Check browser console (F12) for specific error messages
Lessons Won’t Import from Library
Solutions:
- Check your internet connection
- Disable browser extensions (ad blockers might interfere)
- Clear browser cache and try again
- Try the direct download link instead of one-click import
Imported Lesson Has No Audio
Audio playback requires:
- Modern browser with Web Speech API support
- Internet connection for text-to-speech
- Microphone permissions (for some features)
App Performance Issues
App is Slow or Laggy
Common causes:
- Too many lessons stored
- Browser running low on memory
- Old browser version
Solutions:
- Export and archive old lessons you don’t need
- Close unnecessary browser tabs
- Update your browser to the latest version
- Try using the app in a private/incognito window
App Won’t Load
Check:
- Internet connection is working
- Try a different browser
- Clear browser cache and cookies
- Disable browser extensions temporarily
- Check if JavaScript is enabled
Data & Progress Issues
My Progress Disappeared
Possible reasons:
- Browser data was cleared
- Using a different browser/device
- Private browsing mode (doesn’t save data)
Prevention:
- Regularly export your lessons as backup
- Don’t use private/incognito mode for learning
- Be careful when clearing browser data
Recovery: If you exported lessons previously, re-import them. Unfortunately, if no backup exists, progress cannot be recovered (this is the tradeoff for privacy-first design).
Lessons Won’t Save
Check:
- Browser allows local storage (Settings → Privacy)
- You’re not in private/incognito mode
- You have enough disk space
- Browser isn’t blocking site data
Progress Not Syncing Between Devices
Important: Polyglotton does not sync between devices. This is by design for privacy.
Workaround:
- Export lessons from Device A
- Transfer JSON files to Device B (email, USB, cloud storage)
- Import on Device B
AI Generation Issues
“Invalid API Key” Error
- Verify you copied the entire key (no spaces)
- Check key is active on provider’s dashboard
- Ensure billing is set up with your AI provider
- Try generating a new key
“Rate Limit Exceeded”
Your AI provider limits requests per minute/hour.
Solutions:
- Wait 5-10 minutes and try again
- Upgrade your AI provider account
- Generate fewer lessons at once
Generated Lessons Have Errors
AI can make mistakes. Always review generated content.
If content is consistently poor:
- Use more specific prompts
- Try a more advanced model (GPT-4 vs GPT-3.5)
- Manually edit and improve the lesson
Browser Compatibility
Supported Browsers

- Chrome/Edge 90+
- Firefox 88+
- Safari 14+
⚠️ Limited Support:
- Older browser versions (may lack features)
- Mobile browsers (fully functional, but smaller screen)
❌ Not Supported:
- Internet Explorer (discontinued)
- Very old browsers (before 2020)
Audio Issues
Text-to-Speech Not Working
Requirements:
- Modern browser with Web Speech API
- Internet connection
- Target language supported by browser TTS
Solutions:
- Test in Chrome (best TTS support)
- Check system audio isn’t muted
- Try a different target language
- Update your browser
No Microphone Access (for speech input)
- Check browser permissions (usually a padlock icon in URL bar)
- Allow microphone access for the site
- Try a different browser
- Check system microphone settings
Privacy & Security
How to Clear All Data
Chrome/Edge:
- Settings → Privacy and Security → Site Settings
- View permissions and data → polyglotton.com
- Clear data
Firefox:
- Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Manage Data → Search for polyglotton.com
- Remove
Safari:
- Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Search for polyglotton.com
- Remove
Ad Blocker Interference
Some ad blockers may interfere with app functionality.
Solutions:
- Whitelist polyglotton.com
- Temporarily disable the blocker
- Try a different browser
Still Having Issues?
Check Browser Console
- Press F12 (or Cmd+Option+I on Mac)
- Go to “Console” tab
- Look for error messages (red text)
- Screenshot and report if needed
